Vote for Me!
Jan 20th, 2009 | By Hank Shaw | Category: Uncategorized | Comments | 30 Comments |UPDATE, 1/22/09: This has become quite a contest! The Well Fed Network, which is graciously running the Best Food Blog Awards for 2008, has nominated food bloggers for prizes in 14 categories, but no other category is the competition as spirited as in the one in which Hunter Angler Gardener Cook is a finalist: Best Food Blog – Theme.
Thanks to your efforts, as of this writing we have 325 votes, enough to be comfortably winning in every category except one involving getting kids to eat more — and the category we’re in.
Yep, we’re getting hammered by the gluten-free people over at Karina’s Kitchen, as well as those who are fond of Bento boxes over at Lunch in a Box. But there is still time to catch up!
If you haven’t cast a ballot yet, you have until Saturday to vote here. According to Technorati, Karina’s Kitchen and Lunch in a Box are at least three times as popular as our little space here. So maybe we can win, and maybe not, but let’s give it a go, yes? I will resist making a gratuitous “yes we can” reference…

I was astonished to read in my morning Google alerts that Hunter Angler Gardener Cook has been nominated for a 2008 Food Blog Award, for Best Food Blog – Theme. The winner gets a bit of bragging rights (no golden trophy or anything) and the knowledge that the wider world kinda digs what you do.
Now the fact that a food blog with the word “hunter” in it has been nominated at all is a huge deal, folks. Hunting and fishing are not for everyone, but I think that spreading the world about careful hunting, where the quarry is eaten well and with gusto, is important in an increasingly urban world.
So I am asking everyone who reads this space to please, please cast a vote in favor of this blog. Yes, it is a vote for Hunter Angler Gardener Cook in specific, but it is also a show of support for those of us who still go through the effort to hunt, catch or grow our own food.

100,000 thank-yous!
h.
PS – If you choose to vote in the whole contest, you might want to give my fellow bloggers Elise at Simply Recipes your nod for Best Overall Food Blog, and Ilva at Lucullian Delights a vote for either Best Food Blog – Rural or Best Food Blog – Photography.

Done!
You got my vote!
Done!
Voted for ya, and posted asking my readers to do the same.

Thanks a heap, everyone! Keep those votes coming in — we’re gaining on the Bento box lunch blogger…
How thrilling to be nominated for the 2008 Food Blog Award and this on top of getting your first banded bird! Congratulations! I voted and am rooting for you big time!
Voted for ya’ Hank, your recognition is well deserved!
As a fellow hunter I could vote for no other blog but yours.
Done, hope you clean up!
Found you via the voting page, skimmed the front page of your posts, and yes, I approve! This former vegetarian turned farmer is voting for a hunter. Yay!
What a pleasure!
Hank,
There seems to be a temporary problem at the voting site…
Will try again…of course my vote goes to you.

Oh Hank, I had no idea that you are such a SWEETIE! Thanks! And I am happy that you too are a finalist, great to see!
Congratulations for not only being a nominee but a finalist. I voted! I learn so much from your blog.

Done and done. Congrats Hank! It’s pretty obvious why you were nominated.
Oh, and I dearly wish I could have spared some time last week while I was in California to come and break bread with you. Sadly, work was why I was in town, and I only really got out that first night. I ended up making a beeline to Incanto, can you blame me?
I should be out there again pretty soon, and I’ll make sure to give you plenty of heads up.
You got my vote too! Congrats on this hank!
i voted for ya!
Good Luck! Hope you win!
Hey, congrats, Hank. Fingers crossed. Don’t forget all of us little people when you’re famous.
well deserved! you crack me up when describing the other blogs…
You got my vote, hands down.
I found your blog over at the voting site…and voted for you! I’ve heard about your blog from others around here and was pleased to see it in the running! Best of luck.
I voted for you! You’re a shoe-in.
Thanks a heap, all, but shoe-in I am not: Looks like experience is beating exuberance in this one: Both of the other blogs have been around several years longer than Hunter Angler Gardener Cook, and judging by Technorati, may be 5 times larger. Oh well, it is an honor to be nominated…
Dude, I discovered your blog through the awards, and LOVE IT! If my site weren’t in the same category as yours I would totally vote for you.
My sister and her husband are big hunters in Arkansas, and she’s been regaling me with the interesting dishes she’s been making with their game (squirrel enchiladas or deer heart anticuchos, anyone?). I’d love to learn how to butcher a whole pig or deer; currently figuring out how to get someone to teach me…
Hey Biggie! This whole exercise has been fascinating, no? Our category has had far more votes than any other — shows we all have very loyal and committed readers. I know I am hugely flattered.
You’re in San Francisco, yes? I could show you how to butcher an animal; I do it all the time. And deer heart anticuchos sounds AWESOME.
Hank, are you serious? I’d *love* to take you up on that offer — absolutely. You’re up by Elise, right? I’d definitely make that drive for a chance to learn how to butcher an animal; consider me on call whenever it’d be convenient to have a new groupie tag along. (My e-mail addy should be in your system now.) Thank you!
Voted for you!
Yup I voted for you on Friday!
Ai, came too late… sorry chico! But I will send some positive energy over there so that you get the first place!!!
